My story

HI! I'm Nille, a norwegian illustrator and artist.

I've been drawing since I was thirteen. I'm thirty-seven now, and I still draw every day. Art is my meditation; I couldn't live without it. This gallery is a collection of that work.

I'm inspired by fairy tales, mythical creatures, meditation, long hikes in the mountains, and trips to the cabin. When I meditate, a thousand images come to mind, the only hard part is choosing which one to finish.

How it all started

I did my apprenticeship with an illustrator at Bryggen. The next door neighbour illustrator, asked me after a year if I wanted to share, and then take over the gallery.

I couldn't believe my luck. Since I couldn't run it alone, I asked two friends to join me, and together we formed the gallery Myte Illustrations, which ran for six years.

I took my two maternity leaves while the others kept it running.

After a while they were ready to move on, and start a gallery of their own, so I took over. With my second baby running around, i painted the store, while she charmed the customers. Having the time of her life.

Once she was old enough for kindergarten, I brought on my third apprentice through A2g, the first of many who've come through the gallery since.

Where we are now

This past year, my wife joined the team, and together we started Dreamside Up — a photography-meets-illustration project, fine art prints in limited editions, where she shoots and I illustrate. It's a new chapter for us. We're still running the gallery, and we now have an apprentice from France, who simply strolled past the shop one day and knew she wanted to join.

Life is hectic, running the gallery, drawing, but my childhood dream has come true. I think of six year old Nille, allowed to be in a glass blower studio alone, amazed by the art. And wandering through a fairytale store with Nøkken hidden in the floor, secret passageways, drawn in by a place I couldn't quite explain.

And the TV show called Lillys Boutique, planted the idea:

I am an artist.

And I have to make a fairytale store with my art.

I've tried many themes here over ten years, but this one is the truest to myself. Me with the most Norwegian upbringing you could ask for, with the bunads, leikring, trips to cabin every weekend and my dad playing hardingfele by my bed.

Every person who walks in, tells me what the art makes them feel, sometimes even cries, that's everything to me. I couldn't ask for a better life. Thank you for being part of it.

The story of Hugleik Gallery

That I'd put my slight annoyance aside.

We are a gallery that has been running for, eh, three years with this concept. The owner has been managing the gallery for about ten years. We specialize in fairy tales and symbolic art with Nordic Dreamscape. All we want to do is help everyone get more into the present and enjoy their lives here and now with art that can assist in that mission.

Every day, while you walk past your picture, it can draw you into the now, help you surrender, and provide you with good feelings throughout the day. Our goal of making the world more wondrous and fairy tale-like has been achieved through the gallery.

We have a collection of guest artists here every other day of the week, each with their own representation on Instagram. If you go to Instagram, you can see our guest artists as well at Hugleik. We are a co-run gallery by Nille and Stine, who also have a collaborative project called dreamsideup.com, which can also be found on Instagram.

On this page, you can find art prints that you can order for yourself or your loved ones. The gallery has been running for three years, and we hope for many more. We are a family-owned business, and all we want to do is contribute positively to the world. We also aim to spread the good word about our wonderful Norwegian culture and its richness—everything from bunads to hardingfele, as well as our fantastic folklore and fairy tale creatures.
